Using the License Manager

On Windows systems you will need to change the CDS_LIC_FILE environment variable so it points to

To change CDS_LIC_FILE, go to 'My Computer'. Right click on it and select 'properties' at the bottom of the context menu. The properties tabs should pop up. Select the 'Advanced' tab. On its bottom left select 'Environment Variables'. CDS_LIC_FILE should be in the 'System variables' section on the bottom half of the window. Select and edit it so its value is ''.

This should work for most installations. If it doesn't work for you, try adding a System variable LM_LIC_FILE and have it point to the new license file attached to this message. I suggest placing it in 'c:\Cadence\license_2007-2009.dat'

Assuming you are using the BASH shell, add the following to your .bashrc file

export CDS_LIC_FILE="``"
export LM_LICENSE_FILE="<file_location>"
  • where <file_location> is the path + name of the license .dat file ex. /misc/vlsicad/flexlm/tools/bin/license_2007-2009.dat
